I was thinking of taking up fishing again,it has been at least30+ years. I dug out my rod a Wright& Mc gill trailmaster(m4tmu)& my Mitchell Garcia model206,reel, even though they are new,(used may be once) are they worth trying to put back in use? Or would be better off geting new gear? Thanks Bruce

Bruce – I am always glad to hear about someone getting back into fishing! The gear you mentioned is a great start to getting back in the game. If both were stored in a clean dry place and appear to be rust free they could be put to use again. I’m sure both would need a little cleaning and I would lube up the reel and definitely spool up with fresh good quality line.
With that said there have been lots of advancements in fishing tackle over the last 30 years. Reels are smoother with better drags, rods are lighter, stronger and have better actions so you might find yourself wanting to upgrade soon.
Get out there – put those old favorites to use, take a friend and catch a few fish. I am sure you will enjoy getting back into fishing
