Production Machine Operator

Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
Under direct supervision, operates four to five fish hook machines, and monitors the output to produce fish hooks that meet pre-determined quality, and productivity standards for that area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Continuously monitors the output from various processes or equipment to ensure quality standards are met.

Using hands, various tools, and gauges, changes wire, cutting tools, milling tools, grinding stones/tools, and eyeing pins as necessary to maintain quality standards.

Physically checks and lifts coils of wire weighing up to 100 pounds on to machine wire spindle when previous coil is used up, and threads wire into machine feed mechanisms, verify wire type and size are correct.

Uses various hand tools to make minor adjustments to equipment and processes when necessary to meet standards.

Cleans, oils and maintains equipment using established procedures for the area.

Writes information on production cards for trays of hooks as they are filled, and delivers the trays to the hook weighing area, in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to box load limits.

Uses micrometer, calipers, microscope, testing equipment and optical comparator to maintain hook specifications.

Observes and performs all safety and good housekeeping regulations of the department and the Company.

Write maintenance service requests for broken or defective hook machines and tooling.



Requirements:
Must have good visual acuity to be able to check details of fish hooks for quality.

Must possess the manual dexterity to use tools and make adjustments to equipment.

Must be able to read and write, and understand simple math in order to fill out production records.

Must be willing and able to work any shift.

Equipment used Wrenches, sockets and drivers, allen wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers and other hand tools. Also, micrometers, calipers, and other measuring equipment.

Qualifications:
Must be able to function in a noisy environment and tolerate exposure to oil, grease, chemicals, dust, and heat up to 100 degrees.

Must be able to stand and walk for periods of up to twelve hours.

Must be able to reach from floor level to a height of six feet in order to check equipment and make adjustments.

Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Must be able to lift to a height of five feet.

Must be able to observe the operation of equipment from a height of five feet in order to detect malfunctions.

Hazardous Waste Management:
May be responsible for managing hazardous waste at the point of generation in accordance with generator waste accumulation requirements. Responsible for following procedures in the Wright & McGill Preparedness, Prevention, and Contingency Plan.



Metal Finisher

Description:
Safely receives, loads, plates, and unloads all fishhooks subjected to the plating/finishing process to fill department orders in a timely manner.

Requirements:
To receive hooks subjected to the plating process from Bright Stock, Tumbling departments to process through the required plating process.

Using containers and equipment provided, load hooks into containers and immerse hooks into cleaning/preparing solutions and rinsing baths prior to the plating process.

Electrolytically plate the hooks by immersing in plating solutions as required and stirring hooks at predetermined intervals.

Removes hooks from plating solutions at intervals to visually/mechanically inspect hooks for current existing Quality Control Standards.

Removes hooks from plating solutions and rinses hooks in chemically maintained post dips and/or clear water rinses and spins dry in centrifuge dryers.

Maintains daily time and applicable production records in accordance with established procedures.

Observes all safety and good housekeeping regulations of the department and/or Company. In the department, good housekeeping consists of organizing staged hooks for plating, keeping empty containers and trash in trash pick up areas. Ensuring all aisles are clear of debris and hooks in back of and between plating tanks, and all spilled plating solutions are rinsed off of floors.
Qualifications:
Must have basic reading and arithmetic skills to follow instructions and maintain simple records. Must be willing to take a physical and be approved to wear a respirator. Must be able to work wearing a respirator and be able to tolerate extreme heat. Must be able to stand for up to l2 hours. Must be able to work with chemicals used in the plating process.

Individual must successfully complete an initial program of classroom instruction regarding the nature of handling, storage and treatment of hazardous material including all pertinent regulations. Continuing on the job training on this subject will be done when deemed necessary by Supervisor or when new materials or regulations are introduced. This training must include emergency response procedures including shutdown of operations. All training will be done on annual basis. Some previous plating experience or knowledge of chemistry is desirable.

Requires above average exertion. Must be able to frequently lift up to 40 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs. May be required to use hearing protection and participate in hearing conservation program. May be required to participate in Confined Space Entry Training Program and take corresponding physical examination. Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to toxic, caustic and acidic chemicals. Must be capable of distinguishing with a degree of accuracy unusual odors and fumes using sense of smell. Must be willing and able to work varying hours and shifts.

Hazardous Waste Management:

Brazing Maching Operator
